Caernia is a fallen highland kingdom of ancient strongholds, mist-veiled valleys, and proud clans whose history has been shaped by enduring endless hardship and conflict. Once counted among the great human realms of the continent of Eisandor, it was shattered when an immense orcish horde swept across its borders to break its armies, burn its settlements, and ravage its countryside until much of its surviving people were driven into exile. The Fall of Caernia sent a tremor through the remaining human kingdoms, as rival crowns began waging bitter frontier wars over its abandoned strongholds while orcish warbands continue to pillage and terrorize its survivors.Among the dispossed is Willem Davenmere, the young son of a Caernian lord, who bears witness to the destruction of his family's ancestral home and the death of his beloved father before being carried to safety in the neighbouring kingdom of Stahlgarde. Raised far from the highlands that birthed him, Willem grows into a gifted soldier, a charismatic leader, and the center of a loyal brotherhood bound together by kinship, duty, and the dream of return. The Road to Caernia follows him across decades as he attempts to reclaim his homeland, restore its scattered people, and build the future he once imagined with those he loved.Yet Caernia is far more than the object of Willem's ambition; it is the memory against which he measures every victory, the wound that he can never allow to close, and the forlorn promise that gradually consumes every aching moment of his life. What begins as a valiant quest for liberation slowly becomes something darker as grief hardens into obsession, courage becomes vindictiveness, and the fabled hero who restores a kingdom finds himself unable to stop pursuing what he believes was treacherously stolen from him.Set against a wider world of warring kingdoms, ancient faiths, forgotten ruins, monstrous powers, and cultures shaped by centuries of conflict, the trilogy is ultimately the story of a man, a homeland, and the terrible distance between returning home and truly recovering what was lost.

For as long as I can remember, fantasy has been the focal point of my creative life for years, ultimately shaping the stories I read, the histories I study, and the worlds I have spent countless hours building. I am drawn not only to epic battles, ancient kingdoms, or the timeworn ruins left over by both, but to the deeper work of worldbuilding: the languages, faiths, politics, mythologies, customs, and - most importantly - the personal tragedies of those celebrated by song and ballad, and those forgotten to the annals of unsung tales. These are the elements of a story that make an imagined world feel lived in.This newsletter is where I will share that process as The Road to Caernia takes shape, offering readers a closer look at the characters, cultures, ideas, revisions, artwork, and difficult creative decisions that gradually turn a private vision into a finished saga. It will also be a place to trace the story and setting's evolution over time, including the ideas that survive, the ones that are discarded, and the moments when a character, culture, or plotline changes the course of the entire trilogy.My hope is that readers will not only witness the making of Caernia and the world it inhabits, but come to feel invested in its people long before the first book reaches their hands.
